Make your own 100% safe carpet cleaners with these recipes
If you like to keep your carpet at home in a clean and fresh state at all times, you need to know that commercial products aren’t the only way. Sure, you may have to bust out the heavy-duty cleaner every once in a while, but using only such products all the time is not the way to go. They introduce dangerous substances on the surface, and in the air, you breathe.
Therefore, you need to look at alternative solutions. Why not try to make your own cleaners? Not only are they gentler, but they are also easy to mix and really get the job done to a very high standard. Maybe you haven’t used any of the following recipes in your carpet cleaning efforts.
It is time to correct this mistake:
- Carpet refresher – it is possible to make your carpet smell fresh and lovely by combining some baking soda with a blend of essential oils. One recipe features 5 drops clove, 10 drops lavender and 5 drops cinnamon essential oil. The other option is to go with 5 drops lemongrass, 5 drops tea tree and 10 drops orange/lemon essential oil. Pick one blend and mix it with at least 2 cups of baking soda. Sprinkle a layer of this powder on the carpet and leave it there for an hour. After you vacuum, you will feel the pleasant effect of the essential oils. At the same time baking soda will absorb the unpleasant smells from the fabric and sanitise the area. Do this often to keep the carpet smelling better than new.
- Foamy cleaner – if there is a stain on the carpet, you will need a nice foamy solution to take care of it. To create it, you should mix a quarter cup of liquid dishwashing soap, half a cup warm water and 5 drops lavender essential oil. Mix all of this in a large bowl and beat the ingredients until they form a stiff foam. You can use a mixer for this task. Once it is ready, you can apply it on your carpet with a damp sponge. Clean it with a damp cloth/towel. If it doesn’t work at first, you should repeat again.
- All-purpose stain remover – combine a single teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent with 2 cups of water and quarter cup white vinegar for a potent stain remover. Adding a few drops of essential oil will mask the vinegar smell go away and give you a nice tool in the battle against stains. Remember to blot the solution, not rub it in and never saturate the carpet too much.
All of these solutions work great for your carpet cleaning needs. Be sure to try them out to see the cleaning power of essential oils. It won’t take long to convince you that replacing all of the fancy and expensive commercial products with your own homemade counterparts is definitely a wise decision.
