4 ways to effectively deodorise your carpet

Deodorise Your CarpetIf you have a beautiful carpet at home, you must invest effort in proper maintenance. That is the only way to ensure it is in top shape. Carpet cleaning and deodorising need to be on your list of house chores.

While the carpet will not immediately reveal it is dirty, you can bet that an unpleasant smell will spoil the environment instantly. Thankfully, there are some proven ways to fix a smelly carpet. All of them represent more than just a simple technique to mask the odour.

Pick the one that best works for you:

  • Baking soda – carpets can easily absorb unpleasant smells from cooking or smoking. Additionally, there is the pet accident smell that often lurks around the room for what seems to be days. Baking soda comes to your rescue in such cases. Get a generous amount of soda on the carpet and work it into the fibres. It is essential for baking soda particles to end up within the pile as that is how they will absorb the unpleasant smell. Let it sit like that for a night. Then, vacuum the carpet thoroughly to remove the baking soda. That is usually enough to get rid of the smell. If you need a little more kick in your formula, add a few drops of essential oil in the baking soda. That way you will not only remove the bad smell but also introduce a fresh scent of your choice.
  • Carpet deodoriser with baking soda – you can easily mix your carpet deodoriser at home with the following ingredients: ½ cup of baking soda, ½ cup of Borax and a teaspoon of ground spices of your choosing. Cinnamon is ideal for such a recipe. Mix the three ingredients well and store them in a dry and well-ventilated room. Sprinkle this mix on your carpet whenever you want to get rid of some unpleasant smell. Leave it there for half an hour and vacuum it afterwards. That is a potent solution for dealing with pet smells.
  • VinegarVinegar – if you are into the natural approach of carpet deodorising, then vinegar is right for you. Now, usually, vinegar would present a rather strong smell itself. However, once it has dried off completely, there is no trace of it. Pour a mix of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz it on the carpet. Ventilate till it dries off and enjoy the absence of a bad smell.
  • Vodka – you may find this hard to believe, but vodka is, in fact, an effective bad odour remover. It does so through killing bacteria that cause the unpleasant smells. Before you apply it, you should still do some spot cleaning. Apply vodka and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then blot the area with a clean towel.  The smell will vanish in no time.

By utilising any of these carpet cleaning methods, you are sure to banish unpleasant odours. Try out any of the methods above and see just how effective they are.
